Ruby Valley Search and Rescue (RVSAR) is a division of Madison County Search and Rescue, which operates under the authority of the Madison County Sheriff. RVSAR is a volunteer organization with nearly 30 members.
Ruby Valley Search and Rescue strives to continually increase their capabilities, proficiency, and efficiency through frequent training efforts in a broad range of rescue scenarios.
RVSAR is probably best known for their effective, rapid deployment of teams, which tend to be the first boots on the ground in a search and rescue mission.
RVSAR is equipped with multiple UTV’s and snowmobiles, which are setup to accommodate rescue operations. In addition, RVSAR is equipped with a specially-designed rescue jet boat, which can operate in less than a foot of water, so it is highly effective in the rivers of Southwest Montana.
RVSAR has special teams within its ranks which have specialized training and experience in certain areas, including: Snowmobile Team, Swiftwater Team, Jet Boat Team, Equestrian Team, Mantracking Team, Ice rescue capability, and Drone operator.
RVSAR works very hard to establish and maintain effective working partnerships with other SAR groups, companies, and agencies which dramatically increase the unit’s effectiveness and capability by complementing the capabilities RVSAR already has. These partners include the neighboring Search and Rescue Units, Life Flight Network, Civil Air Patrol, Montana National Guard Aviation, Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, and local federal agency Law Enforcement Officers.
Madison County Search and Rescue covers the entire 3,603 square miles of Madison County, in addition to being available for mutual aid to other nearby areas.
