Life Flight Network Purchases 12 C-MAC PM Video Laryngoscopes at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Seattle.

Life Flight Network (LFN), an award-winning, not-for-profit air medical transport service with headquarters in Aurora, Oregon, announced the purchase of 12 Storz C- MAC PM “pocket monitor” video laryngoscopes at the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in the Washington State Convention Center. The ability for a critical care medical team to safely and quickly insert a breathing tube in less-than-ideal pre-hospital environments can ultimately make the difference between life and death. The C-MAC PM is a small lightweight device recently approved by the FDA to help care providers insert breathing tubes in emergent situations. LFN is the first flight program in the Western United States, and one of only two in the country, to utilize this device which offers the latest technology. The 2.4″ video monitor provides a contrast-rich image to help guide the process, even in bright sunlight. These benefits help to ensure the critical care team has the latest technology available to improve patient outcomes.

In discussing the investment in this medical technology, Life Flight Network’s CEO Michael Griffiths stated, “The service we provide has us treating people on one of the worst days of their life. We have consistently provided our critical care teams with the tools they need to save lives and provide better outcomes for our patients. There are a number of less expensive alternatives to the C-MAC PM, but none match the benefits this new tool will deliver to our team and their patients.”

Another highlight for LFN at AMTC was the formal introduction of the first of the company’s 15 new AW119Kx helicopters by AgustaWestland. The formal unveiling of the new aircraft was met with widespread industry applause. Life Flight Network has been recognized as leading the region not only in the acquisition of state-of-the-art high technology medical equipment, but for industry-leading decisions in the operation of one of the most modern EMS helicopter fleets in the country.

LFN was recently named 2012’s Best Nonprofit to Work For in Oregon (large category) by Oregon Business magazine and was the first AAMS air medical “Program of the Year” award-winner in the Western United States. The purchase of top-of-the-line equipment provides another proof point of LFN’s continuous commitment to safety, quality and clinical excellence.

LFN provides air and ground critical care transportation for seriously ill or injured patients from the scene of an accident or from one hospital to another. Given the growing need for safe and timely transport, LFN has strategically positioned bases throughout the Northwest and Intermountain West to provide maximum coverage to the communities it serves.

The company has provided air medical service for more than 34 years and operates bases in Boise, Pocatello, Sandpoint, and Lewiston, Idaho; Ontario, Aurora, Hillsboro, Pendleton, La Grande, Redmond, and Eugene, Oregon; and Longview and Dallesport, Washington. Life Flight Network currently has a combined fleet of 14 medical helicopters, five fixed-wing aircraft and four ground ambulances.

LFN has one of the largest air medical membership programs in Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West, with more than 130,000 individuals in 66,000 households covered. Membership covers air transport when a patient is emergently transported in the company’s aircraft. In addition, LFN’s memberships are honored through reciprocal agreements by most air transport services in the region.

LFN is owned by a consortium of four of the nation’s most prestigious health systems. These owners include Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Providence Health System-Oregon, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and Oregon Health & Science University. The depth of experience and support provided by the owners helps to ensure the company remains at the leading edge of healthcare evolution and progress.
